Tarleton State Baseball to host four-game series against St. Thomas this weekend

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Baseball (3-5) will host the St. Thomas Tommies (2-2) in a four-game series this weekend at the Tarleton State Baseball Complex starting Friday at 3 p.m.

The series will also include a doubleheader on Saturday, marking the third of four doubleheaders for the Texans this season. The fourth and final game will take place on Sunday afternoon at 11 a.m.

This will be the first meeting between the Texans and Tommies since April of 2022. St. Thomas currently leads the all-time series 2-1.


MITO KEEPS HIT STREAK ALIVE

● Jaime "Mito" Perez led the team with two hits against No. 25 nationally-ranked TCU on Tuesday.

● Perez has at least one hit in all six of his appearances this season.

● The senior's start to his season comes after overcoming a season-ending injury in 2024, where he only played three games for the Texans.

● Perez has tallied multiple hits in four of six games this season.

● Perez is tied for second among the team with nine RBIs and currently posts a .444 season batting average.


EFFICIENCY AT THE PLATE

● The Purple and White have three players with a .400 batting average or better.

Braden Gostisha leads the team with a .450 average, followed by Perez (.444) and Lane Brewster (.400).

● Gostisha ranks second on the team with 10 runs.

● Perez and Gostisha have nine RBIs apiece, followed by Brewster with seven.

● Gostisha and Brewer have the two highest on base percentages on the team (minimum 2 PA/G).

● Gostisha posts a .577 OBP while Brewster averages a .529.


OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT

● The Tommies are 2-2 overall, splitting their opening series against New Mexico State.

● St. Thomas averages seven runs per game and holds a .324 batting average.

● The Tommies hold a 7.41 team ERA and a 2.06 WHIP.

● Maulik Matthew is leading the Tommies with a .588 batting average on 17 at bats.


TYSON DRAKE ON PACE FOR GREATNESS

● With a leadoff single in the first inning against the TCU Horned Frogs, Tyson Drake now has a hit in seven consecutive games.

● Drake also has five home runs through eight games and became the fastest Texan in the Division I era to reach five home runs.

● He currently ranks sixth in total home runs and is tied for 23rd across all NCAA Division I athletes with 14 RBIs in the 2025 season.


NEXT UP

Following their four-game series against St. Thomas, Tarleton State will travel to Waco for a midweek matchup against the Baylor Bears. This will be the third Big 12 opponent on the Texans' schedule and the third of six Power Four opponents that they will face throughout 2025.
