Tarleton State Women’s Basketball hosts Utah Valley in Play4Kay Game Saturday

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball plays a critical WAC game against Utah Valley Saturday at Wisdom Gym at 2 p.m. in its Play4Kay Game. 

Entering Saturday's game with a four-game winning streak, the Texans are currently sitting in third place in the WAC standings. Utah Valley, who dropped a nail-biter at UT Arlington on Thursday, is sitting in fifth place. 

Saturday's game will be the Play4Kay Pink Out game, with Texans encouraged to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Pink headbands will be given out to early arriving fans.

Tickets start at just $10 and can be purchased online. Tarleton State students, faculty and staff receive free admission. 

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton State and Utah Valley will meet for the eighth time. Utah Valley leads the series 5-2, with the Wolverines winning three out of the last four matchups. 
  • The Texans are currently third in the WAC standings while the Wolverines are one game behind Tarleton State in fifth place. A win would provide crucial position for the WAC Tournament. 
  • The Texans are two wins away from the Division I Era record for single season wins. 
WINNER WINNER, RECORD BREAKERS
  • In its first season of postseason eligibility, Tarleton State is off to a historic season in its fifth year at the Division I level. 
  • The Texans are two wins away from having the most victories in a season in the Division I Era, with win No. 17 setting the new record.
  • Senior guard Jakoriah Long set a new Division I record of seven made 3-pointers against Seattle U (2/6) en route to 25 points. Long broke teammate Miannah Little's record of six 3-pointers set just two weeks earlier.
  • On December 7, 2024, Tarleton State set a new Division I program record for rebounds with 59 in one game against LeTourneau.  
  • Freshman guard Grace Booth's 13 rebounds against LeTourneau (12/7) set a new Division I Era program record for most boards in a single game by a Tarleton freshman. 
  • Two current Texans are in the top five for single season assists in the Division I Era. 
FAREWELL TO WISDOM
  • The 2024-25 will mark the final basketball season played at the historic, 3,000-seat Wisdom Gym. The Texans are currently 10-2 on its home floor. 
  • This season marks the most wins at Wisdom Gym in the Division I Era. It is the most wins in Wisdom Gym by a Tarleton State Women's Basketball Team since the 2019-20 season.
  • Built in 1970 for a cost of $1.3 million, Wis- dom Gym has been the home of Tarleton State Basketball for over 50 years. Over that time, the gym has become home to All-Americans, All-WAC selections, Conference Champions, Conference Tournament Champions, College Insider.com Tournament games, NCAA Regional Tournaments, and NCAA Sweet 16 games.
FANTASTIC FREEBIES
  • Tarleton State has made great use of its opportunities from the charity strike this season, hitting 75.5% of their free throws as a team. The Texans are in the top 50 in the nation in free throw percentage and lead the WAC in that category. 
  • Tarleton State made a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line against St. Mary's (TX). It is the first time in the Division I Era Tarleton State has shot 100% from the charity strike (min. 10 attempts). It is the first time since Jan. 4, 2018 the Texans were perfect from the free throw line in at least 10 attempts (14-of-14, vs. Angelo State).
  • Tarleton State was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line against ACU (1/23). It was the second time this season the Texans have shot 100% from the charity strike off 10 or more attempts (Dec. 7 vs. St. Mary's).
  • The Texans shot 100% from the free throw line for the second consecutive game, going 6-for-6 from the charity strike at Utah Tech (1/30). Tarleton State has gone 80 minutes and eight seconds without a missed free throw.
  • Tarleton State is currently undefeated in WAC play when it shoots 90% or better from the free throw line this season. The Texans most recently hit 91.7% of their free throws against Seattle U (2/6). 
  • Senior guard Arieona Rosborough has 94 made free throws this season, the second-most in the Division I Era. She is seven made free throws away from setting a new Division I program record.
