STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Tarleton State Baseball (9-9) is traveling west for their first road series of the season to face Loyola Marymount (9-8) at Page Stadium in Los Angeles.
The Texans are currently on a five-game win streak and will look to keep their momentum going over the weekend. This will be the first ever matchup between the Texans and the Lions.
MCCLOUD GETS BACK IN HIS GROOVE:
- Senior infielder Slade McCloud has tallied at least one hit in all five games of the Texans' current win streak.
- Three out of five games have been multiple-hit performances.
- Through four games against New Mexico, McCloud registered six hits, five runs and two steals.
- He ranks first on the team in steals (nine) and second in batting average (.391).
TEXANS ACHIEVE FIRST SHUTOUT IN THE FULLER SMITH ERA:
- Last Saturday against New Mexico, Tarleton State notched their first shutout under head coach Fuller Smith and pitching coach RD Spiehs.
- The Purple and White emerged victorious, taking down the Lobos 4-0 through seven innings.
- Brian Panneton received the start and the win, pitching 4.1 innings of work and only allowing two hits.
- Aden Lucas and Ryan Beaird closed out the game, allowing only one hit between the two of them to clinch the shutout.
- Panneton and Beaird both registered three strikeouts apiece.
OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT:
- The Lions took their most recent matchup against California State University Northridge on Tuesday, 7-1.
- This put LMU back in the win column after they dropped their series against Baylor, 0-3.
- Kolton Freeman leads the team with a .432 batting average.
- Beau Ankeney leads the Lions with nine extra-base hits (5 doubles, 3 home runs).
- The Lions hold a 6.26 earned run average and 165/121 strikeout to walk ratio.
PEREZ MAINTAINS HOT STREAK:
- Over his last four games, Jaime Perez has notched six hits, six runs and four RBIs.
- Perez leads the Texans with a .400 batting average.
- The senior recorded three runs against UIW on Wednesday, one of them being an inside-the-park home run.
- Perez achieved his third three-hit performance last Saturday against New Mexico. This was his first three-hit performance since opening weekend agaisnt Butler.
