Tarleton State Baseball (4-9) is set to host a four-game series against the New Mexico Lobos (8-5) at the Tarleton State Baseball Complex this weekend starting Friday at 6 p.m. After Friday's opener, a doubleheader will follow on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The series will finalize on Sunday at noon.
ONE WIN AWAY FROM 100:
- The Tarleton State Texans are one win away from notching their 100th victory as a Division I program.
- 32 of those wins came during the 2024 WAC Championship season and head coach Fuller Smith's debut season.
- With a win this weekend, the Texans will have reached 100 victories in just four years.
- The Texans are the first NCAA Division I program to win a conference championship during a reclassification period.
OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT:
- The Lobos are currently 8-5 overall, holding a three-game win streak. They took their most recent series against Rhode Island, winning three of four games.
- The Lobos have put up 10 or more runs in seven of their 13 games this season.
- They post a .342 batting average and have three players batting above .400 (Jordy Oriak, Khalil Walker, Akili Carris).
HEINRICH ELECTRIC ON OFFENSE:
- Tarleton State freshman Rayner Heinrich made his first start for the Texans on Feb. 22 against Kansas.
- In eight appearances since his first start, Heinrich has registered eight hits, including five extra base hits.
- Against St. Thomas, Heinrich had two games with multiple doubles (2/28 and 3/2).
- Heinrich has a run in all but two games he's played this season, tallying seven so far.
THE BURCHAM FILE:
- Senior pitcher Jake Burcham is the probable starter for Friday's game.
- Burcham has spent all four years at Tarleton State and is currently on pace to break his career-high season strikeout total.
- Burcham has registered 30 plus strikeouts in two of his previous three seasons at Tarleton State.
- During week one against Butler, Burcham tallied his best performance to date with seven strikeouts, no runs, no walks and a lone hit throughout five innings.
- He is one strikeout away from 100 Ks as a Texan.
