Texan Baseball heads to Utah for three-game series against the Utah Valley Wolverines

OREM, Utah - Tarleton State Baseball (15-23, 3-6 WAC) is headed North to battle against Utah Valley (24-13, 9-3 WAC) in a three-game series ranging from Thursday-Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY:
  • This will be the ninth all-time matchup between these two squads.
  • The series is currently tied 4-4.
  • Thursday will be the first game between these two teams in Orem since 4/18/2021.
  • The Texans took their last game against the Wolverines, winning 9-4.
  • Slade McCloud notched two hits while Ike Shirey posted two RBIs.
OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT:
  • The Wolverines rank first in the WAC with a 9-3 conference record.
  • Utah Valley is currently on a two-game losing streak, falling to Grand Canyon and BYU.
  • The Wolverines are 7-3 over their last 10 games.

  • The former WAC Player of the Week leads the Texans in doubles with 14.
  • Heinrich hasn't been caught stealing all season, going a perfect 7-7 on steal attempts.
  • The freshman has tallied multiple hits in his last three games, going 9-14 over that stretch.
MCCLOUD REACHES 50 HITS:
  • With two hits on Tuesday against the Texas A&M Aggies, Slade McCloud became the first Texan to notch 50 or more hits this season.
  • The senior leads the squad with a .342 batting average.
  • McCloud also leads the Purple and White with 12 steals.
  • He is one of three Texans to register at least 10 doubles this season.
OLSON GETS THE NOD FOR THURSDAY:
  • Senior pitcher Tyler Olson (2-1) will receive his fifth start of the year against the Wolverines on Thursday.
  • Olson posts a 3.06 ERA through 17.2 innings of work.
  • Olson is coming off a season-high four innings of work against the UT Arlington Mavericks on 4/11/2025, allowing just one earned run through that stretch.
  • The senior is one of 13 returners from last year's WAC Championship squad.
LORCH KEEPS ROLLING:
  • With a single against the Aggies on Tuesday, Carson Lorch extended his his streak to five games.
  • The junior infielder tallied a season-high three hits last Sunday against UT Arlington.
  • Lorch has 25 hits over 24 appearances, including seven doubles and a triple.
  • Lorch has accumulated six stolen bases this season and posts a .381 on-base percentage.
