Tarleton State Baseball takes on Houston Christian for final midweek game of the season

HOUSTON - Tarleton State Baseball (20-25) is set to face off against the Houston Christian Huskies (23-19) for their final midweek game of the season on Wednesday evening.

This will be the first all-time matchup between the Texans and Huskies. The Purple and White will look to keep their momentum going after achieving their first conference series sweep of the season where they took all three games against Utah Tech.

OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT:
  • The Huskies are 1-4 in their last five games.
  • Houston Christian has four players posting a .300 average or better.
  • Jack Walker and Rhett Hendricks lead the squad with a .327, followed by Kenneth Dutka (.317) and Parker Edwards (.300).
  • Edwards holds a team-high of eight home runs on the year.
  • Dutka leads the team in hits with 57, followed by Walker with 50. They are the only Huskies to reach the 50-hit mark this season.
MORRISON WINS WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
  • Tarleton State Baseball earned their third WAC Player of the Week on Monday.
  • Senior Trace Morrison accumulated eight hits, eight runs and seven RBIs through four games last week.
  • The Stephenville, Texas, native also had four extra-base hits in two games, including a monster performance on Sunday with two home runs and a triple during his first three at bats. 
  • Following Sunday's game against the Trailblazers, Morrison became the fourth Texan to reach the 50-hit mark this season.
  • He ranks second among the team with 28 RBIs and also has 10 steals this year.
PANNETON TABBED AS WAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
  • Brian Panneton completed the weekly awards sweep for Tarleton State, earning the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
  • Panneton led the Texans to victory during their season opener against Utah Tech. The Tomball, Texas, native pitched eight scoreless innings of work, allowing three hits, no walks and no runs.
  • His eight shutout innings propelled the Purple and White to a 3-2 win, marking their third consecutive victory in conference play. 
  • The junior did not allow a single baserunner for 19 straight outs, displaying absolutely stellar control on the mound. 
LORCH LEADS THE TEXANS TO SATURDAY VICTORY:
  • On Saturday's game against the Trailblazers, Carson Lorch had a dominant five-for-five performance.
  • Additionally, the junior set a personal season-high of four RBIs.
  • Lorch has two home runs in his last five games after posting his first career homer against Utah Valley on April 19.
  • Following this weekend's series, he now holds a .321 batting average during his debut season as a Tarleton State Texan.
GUERRA EXTENDS HIT STREAK TO FIVE GAMES:
  • Senior catcher Sergio Guerra tallied a hit in all three games against Utah Tech, including two doubles.
  • Guerra has a hit in 15 out of his last 16 appearances.
  • He has an active hit streak of five games, the second longest streak on the squad.
  • Guerra leads the Texans with a .718 slugging percentage.
UP NEXT:
  • Following their game against the Huskies, Tarleton State Baseball will head to Riverside to take on the California Baptist Lancers.
  • This will be their second-to-last road series of the year.
  • The Texans will look to continue their five-game conference winning streak and improve their seeding for the 2025 WAC Tournament at Hohokam Stadium.
