STEPHENVILLE, Texas - The Western Athletic Conference recognized five players from Tarleton State for their end-of-season all-conference awards on Monday afternoon.
Slade McCloud was named to the All-WAC First Team while
Ike Shirey was named to the WAC All-Defensive Team. Additionally,
Brian Panneton,
Rayner Heinrich and
Sergio Guerra were all tabbed to the All-WAC Second Team list.
"I'm very excited for our guys that were selected to the All-WAC teams", said head coach
Fuller Smith. "It is a tribute to their hard work and dedication on the field and in the weight room".
McCloud, the second baseman from Robinson, Texas, led the Purple and White with a team-high 77 hits and 20 steals. He finished the season with a batting average of .360 and a .418 on-base percentage. During the opening week of his senior campaign, McCloud was tabbed as the WAC Baseball Player of the Week. The infielder was one of the only players to start every game for the Texans this season, playing a tremendous impact on both sides of the ball.
Shirey, who was honored as one of five players on the WAC All-Defensive team, posted a stellar .976 fielding percentage and led Tarleton State by a landslide with 155 assists. The Dale, Oklahoma, native, accounted for 30 double plays and 84 putouts. Shirey was recently named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List in April, which recognizes the top 100 shortstops in the nation. In his final year at Tarleton State, the shortstop has received high praise for his stellar play on both sides of the diamond.
Panneton was one of three Texans to receive All-WAC second team honors. The right-handed junior led the Purple in White with a 3.24 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 75 innings of work. The Tomball, Texas, native registered six wins this season which also marked a team-high. He was recognized as the WAC Pitcher of the Week in April thanks to his outstanding shutout performance against Utah Tech, where he pitched a career-high eight innings along with six strikeouts. Panneton compiled three scoreless performances and was a crucial part to both of Tarleton State's shutouts in the 2025 regular season.
Heinrich, who made his collegiate debut season in 2025, was also named to the All-WAC Second Team. In 49 games, the freshman compiled 64 hits, 38 RBIs, 27 extra-base hits and nine steals. The Georgetown, Texas, native, led the team with 19 doubles and ranks 44th across all of NCAA Division I with .39 doubles per game. Heinrich was named as the WAC Baseball Player of the Week on March 24th where he recorded 11 hits, five RBIs, three doubles and two steals over a four-game stint against Stephen F. Austin and Kansas State.
Last but certainly not least, Guerra was the third Texan to be named to the All-WAC Second Team. Guerra, a catcher out of San Diego, Texas, led the entire conference with a .738 slugging percentage and was tied for the most home runs among his team with 12. In only 38 games started, Guerra tallied 50 hits and a team-high 28 extra-base hits. He finished his season with three home runs in his last two games, including two homers against Abilene Christian and one on senior day against Grand Canyon. The senior registered six games of three-plus hits and helped lead the Texans with his electric offensive play style.
