Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lightning interrupts, prematurely ends scoreless game between Tarleton State, Northwestern State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Thursday night's soccer game between Tarleton State and Northwestern State started strong. It was a Back 2 School Bash for the Texans, with a rocking crowd and a beautiful day for Texan Soccer. About 13 minutes into the game, a thunderstorm entered the area, delayed the game for nearly two hours, then prematurely ended it at the 70-minute mark.

The game between Tarleton State (1-1-1) and Northwestern State (1-1-1) ended in a scoreless draw 0-0. Lightning in the area turned a 7 p.m. 90-minute game into a 9 p.m. 77-minute game. At about 10:30 p.m., lightning re-entered the area, and the game was called with 20 minutes left on the clock.

The Texans battled the Lady Demons every step of the way on Thursday at the Tarleton State Soccer Complex in Stephenville, despite Northwestern State still on a high after recently making waves with an upset at No. 19 Texas a week ago.

Before the first lightning delay, Stevie Reynolds nearly netted her fourth goal of the season through just three games, putting it off of the crossbar. The ball nearly bounced in off of a rebound, but Northwestern State was able to clear.

Northwestern State's best opportunity came in the 63rd minute, seemingly taking a 1-0 lead as the ball hit the back of the net, but the Lady Demons were called for offside.

Tarleton State goalkeeper Emma Barnes earned three saves on the night. Stevie Reynolds had a team-high two shots and Sammy Schulze had a shot on goal. Northwestern State had nine corner kicks compared to Tarleton State's three, and was called for the lone yellow card of the game (Sophia Minnillo, 69th minute).

The Texans will be on the road for their next two, as they head to Houston next for a Sunday game at Texas Southern at 6 p.m. They'll then play at UTEP on Thursday, Aug. 28, at 8 p.m. CT before returning home to host Incarnate Word on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m.
