Tarleton State shuts out Texas Southern in road matchup

HOUSTON - Tarleton State Women's Soccer got a win on the road this week, shutting out Texas Southern 4-0 in their first meeting in program history.

In the eighth minute of the game, Texan senior Stevie Reynolds scored the opening goal for the Purple and White, her fourth of the season. Reynolds currently leads the Texans in goals scored this season with five in four games.

In the 16th minute, senior forward Avery Harr scored the second goal of the game with an assist by sophomore Sammy Schulze. Schulze dribbled the ball down the right side of the field and passed to Harr, who fired a shot from the top of the box.

With 38 minutes left in the game, senior defender Kaitlyn Flanagan scored the third goal for the Texans off of a corner kick by Jaycie Bass. From the right corner of the field, Bass sent the ball airborne, allowing Flanagan to head it past the goalkeeper.

Reynolds scored the final goal of the match with the help of Reegan Wagg. Wagg dribbled the ball halfway up the right side of the field before passing it into the box, where Reynolds sent it right over the hands of Texas Southern's goalkeeper.

The Texans utilized two goalkeepers in their matchup against the Lady Tigers. Emma Barnes and Mikayla Kendall each played one full half of the game, and both goalkeepers earned one save in the match.

The Purple and White improved to 2-1-1 for the season as Tarleton State played 22 of its 27-woman roster. The Texans outshot the Lady Tigers 20-4, totaling nine shots on goal and 14 corner kicks compared to Texas Southern's two shots on goal and two corner kicks.
