Tarleton State shuts out Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Purple Rally

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Tarleton State Soccer secured another shutout 2-0 win Thursday evening against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, bringing their record to 4-2-1.

Adelaide Wyrzynski scored her first goal for the season with only 10 seconds left in the first half, bringing the score to 1-0. Reigning WAC Offensive Player of the Week, Jaycie Bass, scored second for the Texans. Her third goal of the season, Bass is now second in points behind Stevie Reynolds. Goalkeeper Emma Barnes recorded a total of two saves for TSU in her 4th shutout this season.

Barnes made a big save for the Texans in the 32nd minute of the game. Off an Islander free kick from about 30 yards out, Barnes dove to the right for a glove save to keep the A&M-Corpus Christi off the board.

With only 10 seconds left in the first half, Australian native Wyrzynski scored the first goal of the game with the help of forward Gabrielle Williams. Williams sent a cross from the left side of the box to the right side, where Wyrzynski knocked it in just past the goalie. This marks Wyrzynski's first goal of the season for the Texans, as well as William's first assist.

The first half of play showed to be fairly even for the Texans and the Islanders. Both teams had an equal number of fouls and corner kicks. The Texans recorded six shots and two saves, while the Islanders recorded five shots and three saves to end the first half.

TSU found themselves with a good scoring chance early in the second half. Off a corner kick from Bass, Avery Harr headed the ball toward the net, bouncing it off the crossbar, where it was headed again back over the top of the goal.

Bass scored the second and final goal for the Purple and White in the 77th minute of the match. Fresh off her WAC Offensive Player of the Week honor, Bass has now notched three goals and one assist for Tarleton State in the 2025 season. She is currently sitting in second with seven points behind Reynolds' 13 points.

Tarleton State finished the game with 12 shots, six being on goal, compared to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's seven shots and two shots on goal.

Tarleton State will return to action this Sunday to host their Bounce Back Brunch for their matchup with McNeese at the Tarleton State Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. More information will be released soon.
