Minetti snags first WAC Women’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week honor

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis freshman Marissa Minetti has been named the WAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

The award gives Minetti her first weekly honor of her collegiate career. Minetti, who finished ranked No. 111 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, earned her second WAC honor as a Texan. She was named WAC Singles Player of the Month in September 2025.

The award increased the Texans' midseason monthly/weekly award total at the Division I level to 52 under head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron.

Minetti posted an undefeated 1-0 record last week, defeating Wyoming's Serina Abriola 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles last Thursday. The win marked her first victory in spring competition and forced a winner-take-all contest on Court 3. She was the only Texan to post a perfect singles record last week.

Playing in her first collegiate matches last fall, Minetti went unbeaten in September and lost only one set the entire month. The freshman won the Flight F singles draw of the ACU Classic and collected her first bagel (6-0 set) in collegiate tennis on Sept. 14 in the Cowgirl Invite.

Arriving in Stephenville as the first Texan in the Division I era from Finland, Minetti finished second in the U21 National Championship. She had a third-place finish at the Women's Finnish Championship and competed for the Tampereen Tennisseura TaTS club to lead them to second place in the Finnish Tennis League in 2025.

Tarleton State Tennis will compete in its home opener against Weatherford College on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility. Admission to all Tarleton State Tennis matches at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility are free.
