STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Coming off of a strong 2025 season and an All-WAC Second Team selection, senior catcher
Sergio Guerra enters the year with high preseason recognition.
Guerra is ranked as the No. 6 mid-major catcher in the country and No. 24 overall entering 2026,
according to D1Baseball.com.
"Sergio is a self-made player," said head coach
Fuller Smith. "This preseason acknowledgement is a testament to the work he has put in to become one of the premier backstops in the country, as well as what he did last year for us."
Last season, Guerra appeared in 41 games, starting 39. He finished the year with a .354 batting average, recording 51 hits in 144 at-bats. Guerra belted 12 home runs on the year with 42 RBI, posting a 1.168 OPS. He posted a .439 on-base percentage and recorded a career high of 14 doubles.
Defensively, Guerra made his presence known, throwing out 11 runners attempting to steal, with a .984 fielding percentage. He had a game-high 13 putouts against Butler on Feb. 15.
