Tarleton State retains 1-spot in rankings after 43-point conference road win

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State Football retained its No. 1 ranking in the two major FCS polls after the Texans' 43-point road conference win this weekend.

On Monday, the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll and Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll were released. The Texans are No. 1 in the polls for the second straight week, their first time ever being at the top of any national poll in program history. The Texans have started 8-0 for the second straight season and are one of three undefeated teams remaining in the FCS, along with Stephen F. Austin and Harvard. Since the beginning of 2025, the Texans are 19-1 in the regular season.

In the AFCA Coaches Poll, Tarleton State earned 649 points, earning 25 of 26 first-place votes. SFA is behind the Texans at 623 points, receiving the other first-place vote. The Texans are one of three UAC teams in this poll now, with Austin Peay at No. 8 and Abilene Christian at No. 24. The AFCA FCS Coaches Poll is voted on by the panel chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the AFCA their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top-25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second-place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.

In the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, the Texans earned 1,414 points, picking up 47 out of 57 first-place votes. SFA is behind them at 1,338 points, with five first-place votes. Montana State is in third at 1,297 points with three first-place votes, and Youngstown State fourth at 1,245 points with two first-place votes. The Texans are one of three UAC teams in the poll with Austin Peay at No. 8 and Abilene Christian at No. 24.

The Texans have been ranked in 36 straight iterations of the polls, dating back to the preseason polls in 2024. Tarleton State is one of six teams to have been ranked in each poll over the past three seasons, along with Illinois State, Montana, Montana State, South Dakota State and UC Davis.
