FCS rankings announced, top-25 matchup set for Saturday between Texans and Wildcats

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The FCS rankings were announced on Monday, setting up a top-25 matchup on Saturday between Tarleton State and Abilene Christian.

The Texans retained their No. 1 ranking, now their third straight week dubbed the top team nationally. ACU is tied-22nd in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll and No. 23 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll.

The Texans have started 9-0 for the second straight season and are one of two undefeated teams remaining in the FCS, along with Stephen F. Austin. Since the beginning of 2025, the Texans are 20-1 in the regular season.

In the AFCA Coaches Poll, Tarleton State earned 645 points, garnering 23 of 26 first-place votes. SFA is behind the Texans at 623 points, receiving the other three first-place votes. The Texans are one of three UAC teams in this poll, with Austin Peay at No. 7 and Abilene Christian tied at No. 22. The AFCA FCS Coaches Poll is voted on by the panel chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the AFCA their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top-25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second-place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.

In the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, the Texans earned 1,397 points, picking up 39 out of 57 first-place votes. SFA is behind them at 1,337 points, with seven first-place votes. Montana State is in third at 1,308 points with seven first-place votes. Youngstown State is fourth at 1,257 points with three first-place votes, and South Dakota State is fifth at 1,233 points with one first-place vote. The Texans are one of three UAC teams in the poll with Austin Peay at No. 7 and Abilene Christian at No. 23.

The Texans have been ranked in 37 straight iterations of the polls, dating back to the preseason polls in 2024. Tarleton State is now one of five teams to have been ranked in each poll over the past three seasons as UC Davis dropped out of both polls this week. The other four are Illinois State, Montana, Montana State, and South Dakota State.
