STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State wrapped up a three-game sweep of Le Moyne on Sunday with a 13-8 win at the Tarleton State Baseball Complex.
The Texans (3-0) earned their first season-opening sweep in their NCAA Division I era, their first such sweep since 2017. This is the second straight year they've started their season 3-0, beating Butler in the first three games of a four-game series last year. Le Moyne (0-3) suffered a similar winless start to last year, a 2025 campaign the Dolphins went 20-28.
Sunday marked the second offensive outburst in three days for the Texans, who outhit the Dolphins 16-9. This is the second time in three games that Tarleton State scored double-digit runs, and they now have 38 runs (12.7 per game) and 34 hits (11.3 per game) in three games.
The Texans got on the board early in this one, scoring two runs in the first inning on a double from
Sergio Guerra to give the Texans the quick lead. Tarleton State added two more in the third inning to build a 4-0 lead.
After Le Moyne scored twice in the fourth, the Texans answered right back.
Cage McCloud delivered an RBI single, followed by run-scoring plays from Guerra and
Ike Shirey, as Tarleton State scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to regain control, 7-2.
Tarleton State kept adding to the lead and then broke the game open.
Brady Englett doubled home a run before Guerra launched a two-run home run, extending the Texans' lead to 12-4. Raphael Smeenk capped the scoring with an RBI single later in the inning.
Guerra led the way offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and five RBI. Englett went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Slade McCloud reached base five times, going 2-for-3 with two hit by pitches and a walk, with two runs.
Cage McCloud went 2-for-5 with a walk and two RBI.
On the mound,
Ethan Wendel earned the win after working four strong innings in relief and striking out five.
Cort Lowry provided two scoreless innings in the start, and
Andrew Hardin locked down the final three frames to secure the save.
Tarleton State will make it four straight days with a game played, set to take on Arkansas at Globe Life Field in Arlington on Monday at 2 p.m. Tickets for that game can be purchased
