Tarleton State Women’s Basketball takes on Southern Utah for Saturday matinee

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball will host its second game of a three-game homestand on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Southern Utah at the EECU Center.

The Texans are playing three games in five days, all against the top three teams in the WAC. Southern Utah is right behind Tarleton State in the standings, currently sitting in third place.

Leading scorer Gia Adams recently obtained her 1,500th career point on Tuesday. She is the only active player in the WAC to accomplish that feat.

Fans unable to attend the game in person can watch the game on ESPN+ and also listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network.

FANTASTIC FRESHMAN
  • Freshman Elodie Lutbert is having one of the best seasons by a first-year college player since the Texans moved to Division I.
  • Lutbert recorded her sixth double-double of the season against CBU (2/5) with 15 points and 13 rebounds. She is the first freshman in the Division I era and the first since 2010-11 to have four double-doubles in a single season (Kiara Wright, 4).
  • Lutbert matched the D1 era program record for most rebounds in a game with 16 against UTA (1/21)
  • Lutbert had three straight double-doubles between Nov. 25-Dec.7. She is the first Tarleton State freshman since 1985-86 to have three straight games with a double-double (Kelly Hubbard, Nov. 12-20).
  • Lutbert has also blocked five shots multiple times this season. She is the first Tarleton State freshman since 2005 to have five blocks in a game (TaNesiah Leak).
  • With Shadasia Brackens, she was part of the first Texan duo to post three straight double-doubles in the same three games since 1985. Brackens and Lutbert accomplished that feat Nov. 25-Dec. 2.
  • She is currently second in the Division I era in single season blocks and in the top 10 on the program's all-time list.
  • Lutbert was the last player to join the Texans, signing with Tarleton State in August. She previously represented Team France at the 2023 FIBA U18 Women's European.
LETTING LONG LOOSE
  • Tarleton State Women's Basketball senior guard Jakoriah Long is a scoring threat for the Texans, averaging over 13 points per game in conference play and over 10 points per game overall last year. She was named to the All-WAC Second Team in 2024-25 and Preseason All-WAC Team entering 2025-26.
  • Long knocked down her 100th 3-pointer in addition to 19 points at CBU (1/3), moving into the top 10 on the program's all-time career threes list.
  • She needs two more to pass Sonya Sundberg (2007-11) for seventh on the program's all-time career 3-pointers list.
  • Long is coming off a season-high 20 points at Utah Tech (1/31), playing with an injured leg most of the way. She scored the Texans' first 11 points of the second half and had 16 second half points to lead her team to victory.
  • Long had her first Division I double-double earlier this year, pouring in 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in Tarleton State's double overtime win over Houston Christian (11/9).
  • The senior guard set a new Division I Era single game program record with seven made 3-pointers twice last season.
  • Long is the first Texan in the Division I Era to post two consecutive 25-point games. She is the first Texan since the 2013-14 season to post back-to-back games with at least 25 points (Kiara Wright, Feb. 5-8, 2014).
  • She also became the first Texan in the Division I Era to have back-to-back games with six or more 3-pointers. She is the first Texan since the 2011-12 season to have two consecutive games with six or more 3-pointers (Peyton Adamson, Jan. 11-14, 2012).
STUDENT-ATHLETES
  • The Texans get work done on the court and in the classroom.
  • Women's Basketball posted a team GPA of 3.67 during the 2025 fall semester. It was the highest team GPA on record.
  • Women's Basketball was one of six programs among Tarleton State Athletics to post new term GPA records.
  • 12 student-athletes on the team posted a GPA of 3.5 or better.
  • Every semester since Tarleton State reclassified to NCAA Division I, several programs have set new GPA records, and the Fall 2025 semester was no different. Six Texan programs in total set or tied new GPA records this past semester.
