CLEBURNE, Texas — Tarleton State dropped a 9-3 decision to Texas State on Saturday night at La Moderna Field. Tarleton State battled throughout the night, but Texas State built an early lead and held on to secure the win.

Texas State struck first with two runs in the opening frame to take an early lead. Tarleton State's pitching staff settled in after that, holding the Bobcats scoreless through the next four innings while keeping the game within reach.

Tarleton State broke through in the seventh inning, scoring a run to cut the deficit to 5-1. The Texans stayed aggressive on the bases and at the plate, stringing together quality at-bats to apply pressure and generate momentum.

However, Texas State responded immediately, adding a run in the seventh before breaking the game open with a five-run ninth inning to pull away.

Tarleton State finished the night with nine hits, led by Kendyl Johnson. The Texans were active on the basepaths, tallying five stolen bases.

Tarleton State will look to bounce back as the series continues. The Texans will face Creighton tomorrow at 11 a.m. at La Moderna Field in Cleburne, Texas.
