UTSA edges out Tarleton State Tennis in tightly contested match

SAN ANTONIO – Tarleton State Tennis' match on Sunday came down to the final tiebreak, but UTSA edged out the Texans 4-3 at the UTSA Tennis Center.

After losing the doubles point, the Texans strung together three singles wins to tie the match. The winner-take-all match on Court 5 moved to a third set after senior Adeliya Mukhutdinova won the second set. Down 6-5, Mukhutdinova won the 12th game to force the tiebreak before UTSA's Aoka Nagasawa won the tiebreak 7-2 to take No. 5 singles and the match.

Freshmen Aya Ishii and Dariia Medviedieva both picked up singles wins along with senior Ximena Morales. Ishii won the first set and picked up a victory in the third set for a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win over UTSA's Celine Absawi at No. 1 singles. Ishii picked up her eighth singles win of the season on Sunday.

Morales dominated action at No. 3 singles once again, winning in straight sets. The senior from Guatemala City, Guatemala, defeated Akari Tomoyose 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for her eighth straight singles victory.

Medviedieva picked up her second singles win of the week and won her fourth straight match. The Ukrainian freshman once again came up with a three-set win, defeating Laia Tarazona Peyro 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 on Court 6.
