Tarleton State Tennis dominates play, takes Saturday matinee against Kansas City

TULSA, Okla. – Tarleton State Tennis picked up its third win in its last four matches with a 4-0 victory over Kansas City on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Senior Emma Persson and sophomore Duru Kuscu picked up wins in both singles and doubles. Kuscu's 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles gave the Texans a two-point lead in the match. Persson's 6-3, 6-3 straight sets win on Court 3 clinched the match for the Texans.

Freshman Aya Ishii picked up her ninth singles win of the season, edging out the tiebreak in the first set en route to victory in the second set at No. 2 singles. The freshman from Tochigi, Japan, now leads the Texans in singles wins in 2026.

Senior Ximena Morales paired with Persson to get the seniors' first doubles win as a duo at No. 2 doubles. Morales picked up her fifth bagel (6-0 set) of the season in the second set at No. 4 singles. Her match went unfinished after the Texans' clinched match point on Court 3.

Sophomore Maria Castano paired with Kuscu to get the duo's third doubles win of the season with a 6-3 decision on Court 3. The sophomore duo has won three of its last four doubles matches.

"We scheduled this match knowing Kansas City would be a challenging team," head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. "They are well coached, and always do well in the Summit League. We knew what our team goals were today and really competed well on every court. The quality of tennis was really high and these are the types of matches we need in order to prepare for the teams in the WAC. We are excited for a quick turnaround tomorrow against a solid Tulsa team on their home courts."

Tarleton State returns to action on Sunday to face American Conference foe, Tulsa, at 9:30 a.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Live scoring and a live video stream will be available for Sunday's match.
