Johnson Named Sixth Man of the Year, Second Team All-WAC, Mizell WAC All-Defensive Team, Sigiscar WAC All-Freshman Team

LAS VEGAS — Tarleton State Men's Basketball earned four WAC postseason awards ahead of the first day of the WAC Tournament, the conference office announced on Tuesday night.

Dior Johnson highlights the Texans awards earning WAC Sixth Man of the Year, the first Texan to win the award. He also becomes the fourth Texan to be named All-WAC, the third to be selected to the Second Team. Jordan Mizell becomes the fifth All-Defensive selection for the Texans, tied for the most selections by any current WAC team since 2020. Andy Sigiscar was tabbed to the All-WAC Freshman Team, the third-consecutive year the Texans have had a player on the list.

Dior Johnson is the first Texan to be named WAC Sixth Man of the Year. Johnson played in 19 games, starting only the regular season finale. He was the only player in the NCAA this season to score 400 points without a single start. Johnson was the only player in the WAC to average 20 or more while starting less than half of the games he played in. He was one of two players to average in double figures under those restrictions joining teammate Cam McDowell. Nationally, Johnson was the only player to average 20 or more while starting less than half of the team's games. His 23.8 points per game in the regular season is the most in the WAC by someone starting less than half of the team's games since 2020.

Johnson also earned a selection to the All-WAC Second Team. Johnson proved to be one of the most prolific scorers in the WAC this season averaging 24.3 points per game in his 10 conference games. He scored 20 or more in seven of those contests, and 30 or more four times. He also averaged 1.1 assists and steals per game and 3.3 rebounds in conference play. The Kingston, NY, native, was one of four players and the only in the WAC to score 40+ points in multiple games this season. Johnson scored 20 or more 13 times, and 30 or more in seven contests. In WAC play, he scored a season-best 40 points at Southern Utah. After missing eight-consecutive games, Johnson scored 20 or more in each of the final three contests of the regular season. The junior was a five-time WAC Newcomer of the Week and three-time WAC Player of the Week selection.

Jordan Mizell was a force defensively for the Texans all season. Mizell climbed to fourth in the Texans D1 career steals list totaling 95 in his first two seasons as a Texan. This year, he ranked seventh in the league in conference play averaging 1.6 steals per game. Overall, he tallied 53 steals, the sixth best in the WAC and top 100 in the NCAA. He recorded at least one steal in 16 of the 18 conference games this season. He had multiple steals in 10 different conference games and 17 total on the year. Mizell four or more steals three times, including in the third meeting of the season against Abilene Christian, a 65-62 OT victory where he hit the game-winning layup in the final seconds. He was also one of four players in the WAC this season to record two blocks in a game and be 6'2" or shorter.

Andy Sigiscar had a stellar rookie season for the Texans as a redshirt-freshman. He ranked third among all freshman with 186 total points. He also topped freshman with 1.2 blocks per game in conference play, fifth among all players in the WAC. He scored in double figures eight times, including five in conference play. Sigiscar scored a career best 18 points in his first WAC start at California Baptist on Feb. 5. That started a streak of three-consecutive games scoring in double figures for the redshirt-freshman. He started his final eight conference games to end the regular season. He shot 64 percent from the field making 48 of his 75 shots in conference play.

The Texans will open the WAC Tournament on Wednesday night at the Orleans Arena. The seventh-seeded Texans will take on the sixth-seeded ACU Wildcats at 7:30 pm CT. With a win, the Texans will advance to Thursday to take on third-seeded Utah Tech at 10:30 pm CT.
