Tarleton State Women’s Tennis picks up 10th win of 2026 with victory against UTRGV

AUSTIN, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Tennis ended the weekend in victory, picking up its 10th win of the season with a 6-1 decision against UTRGV at the Austin Tennis Academy on Sunday.

Freshmen Aya Ishii and Marissa Minetti along with seniors Emma Persson and Ximena Morales all picked up victories in both singles and doubles. Sophomores Maria Castano and Duru Kuscu bageled their opponents at No. 3 doubles to help the Texans sweep doubles and take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Momentum continued in singles play, with Ishii picking up her third bagel of the season in the first set on Court 2. Ishii completed set two with a 6-3 win to pick up her 11th victory of the season and give the Texans a 2-0 lead in the match. Freshman Dariia Medviedieva dominated action at No. 6 singles, only dropping four games to claim a 6-1, 6-3 win to put the Texans up by three points.

After UTRGV won at No. 1 singles, the Texans put the match out of reach. Persson edged Hitakamya Narwal in the second set tiebreak at No. 3 singles to give the Texans the team win. Both teams decided to play out the final two matches, with Morales winning in straight sets on Court 4 and Minetti winning the second set tiebreak to defeat Luna Buijtenhuijs at No. 5 singles.

"We got tougher today," head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. "The wind was nobody's friend, but we managed to pull through. That doubles point was key. It gave us momentum going into singles and we kept it going. Everyone worked hard today and I'm proud of our team's effort. We will see the benefits of this match later on in the year."

The Texans are back home at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility on Tuesday at 11 a.m. against Hillsdale College. Admission to all Tarleton State home tennis matches are free.
