Tarleton State Tennis sweeps road doubleheader on College Tennis Weekend

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Tarleton State Tennis showed its dominance on the first annual College Tennis Weekend, defeating Montana (7-0) and Utah Tech (7-0) on Saturday at the Trailblazer Tennis Courts.

The Texans did not lose a set in singles or doubles in either match, with five Tarleton State players going 2-0 in both singles and doubles.

Saturday's wins improved Tarleton State's record to 13-5, the fourth straight season the Texans have won at least 13 matches. Tarleton State picked up its third straight win without giving up a point to the opposition, winning 24 points in a row to date.

"The team represented Tarleton State with pride today," head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. "Both Montana and Utah Tech are well coached, so I'm very happy with how we showed up and competed. We played as a team and you could feel it. The energy was high and everyone played a part in the wins. We continue to improve little by little to get ready for the conference tournament. We know we still have a few things to work on, but our team is motivated."

For the sixth straight match, Tarleton State jumped out in front by capturing the doubles point. The Texans did not lose a single court in doubles play to go up 1-0.

Freshman Aya Ishii continued her strong singles outing in 2026, starting singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 spot. After Ishii's sixth straight win, senior Emma Persson followed suit. The senior from Sweden picked up her fourth straight victory with a 6-1, 6-3 decision on Court 3 to put the Texans one point away from clinching.

Senior Ximena Morales helped the Texans ease their way to victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win on Court 4, but both teams decided to play out the rest of the matches. After freshman Marissa Minetti's 6-2, 6-2 win on Court 5, fellow freshman Dariia Medviedeiva won her sixth singles match in a row following a 6-2, 6-4 decision on Court 6. Sophomore Maria Castano capped off the match at No. 1 singles, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to give the Texans momentum going into their second match of the day.

The Texans once again held firm on doubles, dominating the action for the seventh consecutive time. Morales and Persson won six of the seven points at No. 2 doubles while Castano and Kuscu won 6-2 on Court 3 to clinch the doubles point for Tarleton State. Ishii and Minetti completed the doubles sweep by winning 7-5 at the No. 1 singles spot.

Just as she had in the first match of the day, Ishii jump-started the Texans' singles performance. Ishii capped off her day with her fifth bagel of the season and got a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Castano continued her ride in victory lane, winning 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to give the Texans a 3-0 lead.

Wins from Morales and Minetti clinched the match for the Texans, but Tarleton State's winning ways continued. Persson won her fifth straight match thanks to a 6-4, 6-2 decision on Court 3 while Medviedieva won the first set tiebreak en route to a straight sets win on Court 6.

Tarleton State Tennis goes on the road for the final time in the regular season next weekend, traveling to Tyler Junior College on Friday before taking on Louisiana Tech in Ruston on Saturday, April 4.
