Box Score ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Tarleton State used a big offensive surge late in the game to rally past New Mexico, scoring 10 runs across the final three innings to secure the road win.
New Mexico jumped out to an early lead in the third inning, putting together a string of extra-base hits and timely RBI to plate five runs. The Lobos added three more runs over the next two innings to stretch their advantage to 8–2 heading into the late stages of the game.
Tarleton State began chipping away in the fourth inning when Kendyl Johnson doubled down the right field line to start the rally. Rayner Heinrich followed with an RBI single to score Johnson, and Cage McCloud later lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home another run and cut the deficit.
The Texans continued to battle in the sixth. Carson Lorch doubled to left field and came around to score when Ike Shirey lined an RBI single to right, trimming the New Mexico lead.
Tarleton State's offense erupted in the seventh inning. Brady Englett and Johnson opened the frame with back-to-back singles, setting up Slade McCloud for an RBI single that started the rally. Lorch then delivered an RBI double, and Cage McCloud followed with a two-run single to put the Texans right back in the game. Sergio Guerra capped the inning with an RBI double, completing a five-run frame that flipped the momentum.
The Texans kept the pressure on in the eighth. Englett reached base again before Slade McCloud ripped a two-run double down the right field line. After stealing third, McCloud scored on a sacrifice fly from Lorch to extend Tarleton State's lead.
Tarleton State added insurance in the ninth inning as Braden Gostisha drove in a run with a ground-rule double before Heinrich delivered another RBI single to push the lead further.
On the mound, Tarleton State's bullpen settled the game down late. Jack Lovin worked a scoreless seventh inning, and the Texans closed things out in the ninth as Tai Phetluangsy entered to record the final outs and secure the victory.
Tarleton State finished with a strong offensive showing down the stretch, highlighted by multiple hits from Englett, Heinrich, and Slade McCloud as the Texans completed the comeback win.
The Texans will continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader in New Mexico, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
