Shirey named a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Senior shortstop Ike Shirey has been named a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, as presented by the College Baseball Foundation, recognizing the top shortstops in college baseball for their performance on the field and overall contributions during the 2026 season.

The senior infielder delivered one of his most complete offensive performances of the season on March 29 against Air Force, going 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBI while scoring two runs. He followed that effort with another strong showing during the series at UT Arlington on April 4, recording three hits to lead the Texans at the plate.

Through the first half of the season, Shirey has recorded multiple multi-hit games and has consistently produced in key situations, including a two-double performance with two stolen bases in a win over Abilene Christian on April 9. His ability to reach base, drive in runs, and create opportunities on the basepaths has made him a steady presence at the top of the Texans' lineup.

Defensively, Shirey has been a reliable anchor on the infield, compiling a .967 fielding percentage with 93 assists and 25 double plays turned through 36 games this season. He recorded a season-high seven assists against California Baptist on April 17 and has consistently demonstrated strong range and leadership at the shortstop position.

The Brooks Wallace Award, presented annually to the nation's top collegiate shortstop, highlights players who excel in all aspects of the position, including defensive reliability, leadership, and offensive production.
