STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Senior infielder Slade McCloud earned WAC Baseball Player of the Week honors after an outstanding all-around performance at the plate and in the field.
McCloud batted 10-for-16 (.625) with a home run, two triples, a double, nine RBI, six runs scored, and 18 total bases. He also posted a 1.125 slugging percentage and maintained a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on 16 chances (11 putouts, five assists).
"Slade is one of the most dynamic all-around players we have had here at Tarleton State," head coach Fuller Smith said. "WAC Players of the Week honors are won offensively, but his defense was a game changer all weekend as well. He seems to have a knack for the highlight-reel plays when the game matters the most."
The senior infielder led the Texans in batting average, hits, runs, triples, RBI, and total bases during the week. He recorded a hit in all four games, posting three multi-hit performances, including a perfect 4-for-4 outing with four RBI in Friday's win. He also went 3-for-4 at Texas Tech on Tuesday, adding a triple and an RBI.
McCloud currently leads the Texans with a .366 batting average and 43 RBI on the season, while also ranking among the team leaders with five triples and five home runs.
Tarleton State went 3-1 on the week, highlighted by a conference series sweep against Utah Valley, and now improves to 28-15 overall and 8-4 in WAC play, tied for first place in the conference standings.
