Tarleton State Men’s Golf’s Pastor named to PING All-Region Team

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Men's Golf redshirt freshman Alvaro Pastor made more national noise on Saturday, being named to the PING All-Region Team.

Pastor, the 2026 WAC Player and Freshman of the Year, was selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America for PING's Central All-Region Team. Pastor was one of just four players from a non-Power 4 conference school to be named to the Central All-Region Team.

The PING All-Region Teams recognize the top collegiate golfers in the United States. 150 players across six regions and 81 schools earned all-region honors in 2026.

The Madrid, Spain, native won two individual titles in addition to helping the Texans to its first-ever conference championship. He became the first player in program history to win titles in back-to-back events, winning the Golden Nugget Invitational and All-American Intercollegiate earlier this year. Pastor became the first freshman to win WAC Golfer and Freshman of the Year since 2012-13 (Cody Blick, San José State).

Pastor continued his dominance in the NCAA Marana Regional, finishing fifth overall on the player leaderboard. He tallied a 3-under-par 69 in the first round before closing day two with a 5-under-par 67. Pastor closed out the final day at 4-under-par, combining for 14 birdies and two eagles in Marana. The Spaniard's fifth-place finish gave him his seventh top 10 finish of the season.

The three-time WAC Golfer of the Week award winner in 2026 was instrumental in both of the Texans' team titles this season. After shooting a 6-under-par first round at the FAU Invitational, Pastor finished tied for 6th to help the Texans to its first team title in program history to end the fall. He was the top performing Texan in the WAC Championship, shooting 1-under-par for third place on the player leaderboard.

Pastor currently holds the program record for lowest 18-hole, 36-hole and 54-hole scores and has the most top 10 finishes among any men's golfer at Tarleton State. On the national stage, Pastor represented Spain in the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships. He finished 24th overall with a 3-under-par finish.

Tarleton State Men's Golf completed the best season in program history in 2025-26. The Texans won its first conference championship in program history with the 2026 Western Athletic Conference Championship and won a total of two team titles during the season. Tarleton State also finished in the top three in five tournaments, the most in program history.
