Tarleton State hires Brian Dolehide as 2nd head coach in Texan Men’s Golf’s modern era

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State has hired Brian Dolehide as head coach for Texan Men's Golf, the second head coach in the program's modern era.

"Brian Dolehide is highly recommended across collegiate golf, and we agreed early in our search that he is the perfect choice to be the next Texan Men's Golf head coach," Tarleton State Vice President and Director of Athletics Steve Uryasz said. "Coach Dolehide is great at developing and overseeing all aspects of running a program, and with a strong playing career himself, he is able to connect easily with his student-athletes. I want to welcome Coach Dolehide to Stephenville.

"I also want to thank Deputy Athletic Director Eric Heier and our men's golf administrator Ben Price for their help in identifying Brian Dolehide as our next men's golf head coach," Uryasz added.

Dolehide has spent the past four seasons at East Texas A&M, leading the men's golf program all four years, and added women's golf under his direction the last two-and-a-half years. In July 2024, he was officially elevated from men's golf head coach to Director of Golf, leading both of the Lions' programs.

Dolehide has also served coaching stints at Baylor (2021-22), Goucher College (2021) and at his alma mater Florida Atlantic (2019), where he played four seasons (2015-19).

"I am incredibly honored and excited to be named the head men's golf coach at Tarleton State University," Dolehide said. "A huge thank you to Steve Uryasz and the leadership team for entrusting me with the future of this program. The energy and school spirit here is unmatched, and I can't wait to bring more championships to Stephenville.

"I'm forever grateful to the players I coached over the last four years at East Texas A&M, and to [East Texas A&M Director of Athletics] Jim Curry for the opportunity," Dolehide continued. "It's time to get to work and bring some new trophies home to Tarleton State!"

Since taking over the Lions' men's golf program in 2022, Dolehide has lowered the team's scoring average by an average of 40 strokes per tournament. Over the past two seasons, the Lions won the LaTour Intercollegiate and have eight top-five finishes, placing fifth in the Southland Conference Championships in each year. Dolehide has served as the Lions' head coach throughout their NCAA Division I era, as formerly named Texas A&M-Commerce reclassified in 2022.

"I am thrilled for Brian and his new position," retired Baylor Men's Golf head coach and three-time NCAA national champion Mike McGraw said. "I will always be thankful for sacrifices he made for Baylor as our Volunteer Assistant four years ago. He is a terrific coach and an even better person, and I am looking forward to watching his progress at Tarleton State."

This past season, the Lions student-athletes were awarded the SLC Newcomer of the Year, a Second Team All-SLC honor and two SLC Golfer of the Month awards.

East Texas A&M Women's Golf took second in the SLC Championships in each of the first two seasons under Dolehide's leadership. Altogether since January 2024, the Lions finished in the top-five nine times, earned an individual SLC Women's Golf Student-Athlete of the Year award, one First Team All-LSC and two Second Team All-LSC honors.

"First and foremost, Brian is a great person and will be a tremendous addition to the staff at Tarleton State," UNC Asheville women's golf head coach and former Florida Atlantic men's golf head coach Ross Cash said. "I was the head coach at FAU where Brian played collegiately and I have watched him grow into a strong leader, and his players play with a determined confident resolve. Brian will without question do great things at Tarleton State and this will be seen as a brilliant hire!"

Dolehide was a volunteer assistant coach at Baylor in 2021-22, associate head coach for Goucher College in 2021, and a volunteer assistant coach at FAU in 2019.

In his playing career, Dolehide was a four-year member of the FAU men's golf team and a Conference USA Commissioner's honor roll recipient. At the prep level, he was a three-time state high school champion in Illinois for Hinsdale Central High School, winning the Illinois 3A State Championship in 2012-14 and the individual conference champion in 2013.

A native of Hinsdale, Illinois, Dolehide received a bachelor's of marketing degree from Florida Atlantic in 2019, and a Master's of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern in 2024.
