STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State already has its tied-second most draws in a single-season in program history – and the Texans are just five matches in.
On Sunday evening at the Tarleton State Soccer Complex, the Texans (0-2-3) earned their third draw in their fifth match on the year, a 1-1 final against Lamar (1-1-3). Tarleton State finished with three draws in the entire season in each 2022, 2023 and 2024. This is the second time the Texans have had three draws in their first five matches, along with the 2024 campaign, where the results were win-loss the remainder of the year.
Tarleton State benefitted from a Lamar own goal in the 65th minute to tie the match, with
Zahra Friess providing the scoring chance for the Texans with activity in the box. With Friess pressuring the Cardinal defense deep, Lamar tried to clear the ball and put it in the back of the net.
The Cardinals led for about 50 minutes, scoring in the 17th minute, a Kamdyn Jalayer goal from Kamryn Harvey. Tarleton State goalkeeper Rylie Blomfield pulled out a top shelf save with one minute left in the match in the top left corner to preserve the draw for the Texans. She finished with two saves and one goal allowed, playing all 90 minutes for the third time this year. She has started all five matches.
Lamar outshot Tarleton State 15-9, 6-3 in the first half and 9-6 in the second half, although the Cardinals barely had a shots on goal advantage, 4-3. They were called for 11 fouls to Tarleton State's six.
Adelaide Wyrzynski had a team-high three shots, with one on goal, for the Texans, with
Avery Mendez (two, one on goal),
Ava D'Costa (two, one on goal) and
Jessica Baires (two) accounting for the rest of Tarleton State's attempts.
Along with Bloomfield,
Zoe Ballard,
Peyton Bryant, D'Costa and
Isa Bergeron-Prejean played all 90 minutes.
In series history, Tarleton State earned its first draw against Lamar, 0-2-0 entering Sunday's match with a 5-1 loss on the road in 2022 and a 3-0 loss at home in 2023. Sunday also marked Tarleton State's Military Appreciation Match, with the Corps of Cadets and ROTC leading a special prematch color guard.
This was the final home match for nearly three weeks for the Texans, away from Stephenville until they host Texas Southern on Sept. 17. Tarleton State will play three straight road matches starting Thursday at Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, at 7 p.m.
