Tarleton State Tennis picks up 18 combined wins, wins Flight B doubles in ACU Invite

ABILENE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis picked up 11 singles wins and seven doubles wins along with winning the Flight B doubles draw at the ACU Invite that wrapped up this weekend at the Eager Tennis Pavilion.

Sophomore Marissa Minetti and freshman Nuria Lafitte-Valls captured the Flight B doubles draw by winning three matches. Minetti/Lafitte-Valls beat duos from ACU before defeating Polina Sleptsova/Raegan Farm from Texas Tech 6-4 in the finals.

Junior Mario Castano, sophomore Aya Ishii, along with freshmen Anna Huisgen and Erika Abraham-Nilsen won two singles matches in their respective draws. Castano defeated Natalie Stasny from SMU in a tiebreak 6-3, 4-6 [11-9] before taking the victory over UTA's Sofia Selle 6-4, 6-3. Ishii came up with wins over opponents from Texas State and UT Arlington while Huisgen also picked up a win over SMU's Stasny and ACU's Victoria Correa.

Abraham-Nilsen went undefeated in the Flight E singles draw. The freshman defeated two opponents from ACU, knocking off Che Nei 7-5, 6-2 and Zara Zafiovska 7-6(6) 6-0.

Lafitte-Valls also picked up a pair of singles wins in the Flight D singles draw. She came up with wins over a pair of United Athletic Conference opponents, defeating Vanja Cado (UTA) 6-3, 6-4 and Anna Krljic (ACU) 7-6(3), 6-2.

"We had a great weekend of tennis and learned a lot about ourselves and what we need to do to be ready for the spring," head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. "I saw a lot of positive things on court and we won a lot of matches, but I'm most excited about the work ahead of us. This group is eager to learn and work hard, and I know they'll continue to push themselves and each other through the rest of the fall."

Tarleton State continues its fall campaign by taking a trip to New York in October, competing in the Fordham Four Invite Oct. 2-4.
