Wildcats snap Tarleton State Soccer’s win streak

Box Score STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State's record-breaking unbeaten streak was snapped on Sunday, losing to Abilene Christian 3-2 on Sunday at the Tarleton State Soccer Complex.

The Texans fell to 1-2-2 at home in front of a passionate Purple Out crowd. The Texans went unbeaten in seven straight matches and had a win streak of three matches entering Sunday's contest.

This is the Wildcats' first win over Tarleton State since 2023, following two consecutive draws in last year's matchups.

The Wildcats extended their own unbeaten streak to four matches, with two wins and two ties. They now hold the all-time series edge at 2-1-3.

ACU's Jenn Verplancke appeared to have scored the match's first goal eight minutes in, but after a lengthy review, the call was overturned for an offsides call. 12 minutes later, the Texans responded as freshman Ava D'Costa scored the first goal of her young career to make it 1-0 Texans.

Abilene Christian evened it up off a free kick goal from Sophia Saludares. Amelia Miller continued the scoring five minutes later with an assist from her twin sister, Raelin, to make it 2-1 Wildcats at the half.

In the 59th minute, Rylie Bloomfield tipped a high shot out of play to keep the deficit in check, but the Wildcats got right back in position after the goal kick. Raegan Hollis extended the lead to two goals in the 62nd minute, finding the back of the netoff the feed from Miller.

In the 76th minute, Grace Berry fired a shot over the top left of the net to set up a corner kick. Aftera quick scrum, D'Costa drove in her second goal of the day to make it 3-2.

The Texans had a shot to tie in the 87th minute with a free kick. Peyton Bryant and Naomi Langille each fired off a shot, but came up empty. The Texans wouldn't see a better chance the rest of the way.

Bryant consistently put the Wildcats on edge with four shot attempts. Zahra Friess and Adelaide Wyrzynski had two shots each.

The Texans heavily outshot the Wildcats early on, but the teams finished the day practically even. ACU finished with 19 and the Texans tallied 18.

The Texans head up to the Coleman Sports Complex in Little Rock, Arkansas, for their third conference match against Little Rock on Sunday at 6 p.m. CT. This will be the first all-time meeting and conference match for the two teams.
