He had a long of 69 yards. He was from El Paso and went on to play at Hardin-Simmons and Tulsa.

James Dearth • TE
1999-2011 New York Jets
James Dearth had a steady 12-year career in the National Football League. At one point, Dearth played in 162 straight games as a tight end and long snapper for the New York Jets. After earning all-conference honors at Tarleton, Dearth went on to his career in the NFL. The Cleveland Browns drafted the former Texan standout in the sixth round in 1999. Dearth spent the 2000 season with the Tennessee Titans, before playing with the Jets from 2001-2009. He also had stints with the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots. Dearth has since retired from the NFL. During his career, Dearth signed an eight-year contract, which at the time, was the longest contract in NFL history. He was also voted Hardest Worker by his teammates and was an active member of the NFL Player’s Association.
