Tarleton Texans in the National Football League


Tally Neal

After arguably the greatest career in Tarleton Football history, Tally Neal continued his football career with the San Antonio Gunslingers of the United States Football League (USFL). Neal played for the Gunslingers in both years of the team's existence (1984-85).

Derrick Ross

During his arena career, Derrick Ross has dominated both the NAL and AFL as a league leader. In his seven seasons he has amassed nearly 1,000 carries for over 3,700 yards and 220 touchdowns. Ross earned All-Arena honors in 2015 and holds the AFL record for career rushes, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. Prior to the Sharks, Ross played for the Kansas City Chief (2006), Cologne Centurions (2007), Montreal Alouettes (2008), Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2009), Dallas Vigilante (2011) and Philadelphia Soul (2012-2014).

Xavier Ruben

Xavier Ruben was an offensive lineman for the Texans who went on to compete for the Corpus Christi Rage in the Arena Football League. He also played in the Indoor Football League for the Tri-Cities Fever. He played from 2015-17.

Garrett Lindholm

In addition to his efforts in the NFL, Garrett Lindholm enjoyed a career kicking for four different organizations in the Arena Football League from 2011-16. In 2013, Lindholm was named the AFL's Kicker of the Year while playing for the Arizona Rattlers.

Nick Stephens

Nick Stephens was a quarterback for the Texans who went on to compete in the Arena Football League after his stint in the National Football League. He played for two different teams in the AFL from 2013-14.

Basil Jackson

Basil Jackson went to Germany to continue his football career by signing with the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions in 2019. Jackson was invited for tryouts with the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks and also attracted interest from Canadian Football League teams before signing with the Lions.

Dominique Martin

After spending three seasons as a wide receiver and then one as a corner back for the Texans, Dominique Martin headed across the Atlantic to compete professionally in Germany for the Cologne Crocodiles in 2018.

Marv Brown

Marv Brown was a halfback for the Texans for two seasons from 1953-54 when Tarleton was a junior college. He left Tarleton and continued his career at Texas A&M-Commerce before being drafted in the 25th round (301st overall) by the Detroit Lions. He played one season for the Lions in 1957.

Walter Bryan

Walter Bryan was a two-way star for Tarleton during the junior college era. Bryan played running back and defensive back from 1951-52 before continuing his career at Texas Tech. He was drafted in the ninth round (99th overall) by the Baltimore Colts in the 1955 NFL Draft. He played in 10 games for the Colts in 1955.

Camp Wilson

Camp Wilson played for Tarleton during the junior college era before moving on to Tulsa. He signed with the Detroit Lions in 1946 and went on to have a four-year career with the Lions from 1946-49. He rushed for over 1,400 yards and six touchdowns in his career.
