Wes Hunt

When the 2023 baseball season begins, Wes Hunt will begin his first season as an assistant baseball coach for the Texan Baseball program.

Hunt makes his return to Stephenville after four years away. He previously served as a graduate assistant at Tarleton for two seasons, 2017 and 2018.

Most recently, he spent two seasons on staff at Campbell University as an assistant coach. In Hunt's tenure, the Camels made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, a program first. Campbell played in the 2021 National Champion Mississippi State's regional in Starkville in Hunt's first season and played in the No. 1 overall seed Tennessee's regional in Knoxville in 2022.

Campbell put up big time numbers while Hunt was on staff. In 2022, Campbell was the only team in Division I to reach 100 home runs, 100 stolen bases, 100 doubles and 100 hit batters throughout the season. The impressive statistics did not stop there as a record 11 Camels were named All-Big South, with two players earning All-American status. Campbell won the Big South regular season title in both 2021 and 2022, capturing the tournament title in 2022 as well.

Hunt was a part of a coaching staff at Campbell that developed two first round MLB draft picks, Zach Neto and Thomas Harrington. Neto and Harrington were picked at No. 13 and 36 overall, respectively, in the 2022 MLB Draft.

Hunt was no stranger to success before Campbell. Prior to that he spent two seasons as the top assistant coach at UT Permian Basin.

At UTPB, Hunt's presence helped the Falcons get back to winning ways. In 2019, his first season on staff, UTPB won 20-plus games for the first time since 2015 and clinched a spot in the Lone Star Conference playoffs. This was a marked improvement as the Falcons won only nine games the season before. Four Falcons earned All-Conference postseason honors with the help of Coach Hunt.

UTPB looked poised to post another successful season in 2020 as they were 9-13 and coming off a four-game series sweep of LSC foe Eastern New Mexico before Covid-19 put an end to the season.

Prior to the stint in Odessa, Hunt spent two seasons at Tarleton as a graduate assistant. He was on staff under former Tarleton head coach Bryan Conger from 2017-2018 and graduated with a Master's degree in Kinesiology. During the two years in Stephenville, Hunt worked with the outfielders and coached third base. The Texans experienced two winning seasons with Hunt on staff. In 2018 Tarleton finished 35-17, won the LSC tournament title, and made an appearance in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.

Before joining Tarleton, he spent one season as a coach at Ranger College in 2015-16.

Hunt has always had a passion for coaching, starting as an undergraduate assistant at UNLV. He spent three seasons as an undergraduate coach, from 2011-2014, and one season as a volunteer assistant. He worked with the outfielders and was the team's camp director. The Rebels won the Mountain West Conference Championship and made an appearance in Oregon State's Corvallis regional in 2014.

Before getting into coaching, Hunt spent time as a player at the College of Southern Nevada and at Chipola Junior College. In 2010, Hunt helped lead Southern Nevada to a Junior College World Series appearance. In 2011 he made 11 starts and played in 38 games, helping Chipola earn a Florida State championship and a JUCO World Series appearance. He earned the rare distinction of making the JUCO World Series two consecutive years with two different teams.

Hunt, a native of El Paso, Texas, graduated from Shadow Ridge High School in Las Vegas in 2008. He studied communications at UNLV and graduated in the summer of 2014.

Hunt resides in Stephenville with his wife Rebecca. The Hunt's met in Stephenville where Rebecca was a part of the Texan Volleyball team from 2015-2016.
