When the 2025-26 season begins, Dr. Whitney Smith will start her eighth year with Tarleton State Athletics and her sixth as a full-time athletic trainer with the baseball team.
A native of Browning, Montana, Smith made her way to Tarleton State after earning her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from West Texas A&M University. She went on to earn her master’s in kinesiology with a focus on athletic administration from Tarleton State, then completed her doctorate in athletic training in December 2025.Â
Her experience also includes providing athletic training coverage at major national events like the National High School Cheer Competition, Texas UIL State Cheer Competition, National Dance Team Competition, and International All-Star Cheer Competition held in Orlando, Florida. She also covers local high school football games in the fall.Â
Smith volunteers on the World Federation of Athletic Training & Therapy Committee (WFATT) and serves on the Exam Development Committee as an exam writer for the Board of Certification for Athletic Training Exam.Â
Whitney resides in Stephenville with her husband Matt and three children Kimber, Greeley, and Hox.
