When the 2020-21 season begins, Karli Moore will begin her sixth season as a full-time assistant basketball coach for Tarleton.
In her first season as the top assistant, Tarleton put together a magical run through the Lone Star Conference Tournament, including a 17-point rally against Angelo State to earn the school its second LSC Tournament Championship and seventh trip into the NCAA postseason.
Tarleton followed up with the second trip to the NCAA regional tournament in as many seasons with Moore as a full-time assistant. Tarleton won 20 games for the first time since 2013-14 and advanced to the LSC Tournament Championship game for the second consecutive season. Tarleton then earned an at-large bid to the NCAA playoffs.
In 2018-19, Tarleton continued its upward climb and went 22-9 on the season and advanced to the NCAA regional tournament for the third straight season as the No. 6 seed. It was the second straight 20-win campaign for Tarleton and the first time since 2009-14 that they advance to the NCAA tournament for three straight seasons.
In Tarleton’s final NCAA Division II season, Moore helped lead the Texans to a third consecutive 20-win season with a 21-8 overall record. Tarleton went 15-7 in the final LSC season, with a 11-5 record in Wisdom Gym.
Moore stepped into the full-time position after spending her first season of coaching as a graduate assistant with the women’s basketball program in 2015-16 and helping Tarleton to 17 wins and a trip to the LSC Tournament semifinals.
Before transitioning to the bench, she spent four seasons as a player for the purple and white, including her last season as one of two seniors under head coach Misty Wilson in her debut season at the helm of the program. Moore played in 100 games during her career, earning 27 starts in her senior year as she helped lead Tarleton to a 17-10 record in Wilson’s first year.
After coming to Stephenville from Justin in 2011, Moore made an immediate impact, as the then-freshman was a part of Tarleton’s run to the LSC Tournament Championship. She was a part of three NCAA Regional Tournament runs and was a three-time LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection. She averaged 4.9 points and 2.8 rebounds during her four-year career and was named LSC All-Academic in 2015. Her best season came last year under Wilson’s guidance as Moore averaged 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a senior.
Moore graduated in 2015 with her undergraduate degree in kinesiology and graduated in August 2017 with a master’s degree in the same field.
