STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton Texan men's basketball team will return to action at home against two Lone Star Conference North Division foes in crossover action. The Texans will host Southwestern Oklahoma at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19 before entertaining Cameron at 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21.
The Texans are coming off a 48-43 victory at Southeastern Oklahoma on Monday, Dec. 14. Tarleton trailed 21-12 at halftime, but the Texans outscored the Savage Storm 36-22 in the second period. The Texans also improved their shooting percentage in the second session from 14.3 percent to 40 percent. Tarleton was led by Corin Henry with 16 points and Devon Hills with 13. Jeremiah Wilson led the squad with eight rebounds.
Tarleton is 6-2 this season, including a 5-1 mark at home in Wisdom Gym.
This season, the Texans are led by Henry with 13.3 points per game, 38 assists and 18 steals. Wilson is second on the team with 10.6 points an outing while Hills is third with 10.4 points per contest. Wilson's 8.1 rebounds per game tops the squad while Donta Smith is second with 6.9 boards per outing.
Tarleton is averaging .441 from the floor, .381 from the arc and .627 from the charity stripe while opponents are shooting .385 from the field, .383 from the arc and .658 from the line. The Texans are outscoring foes 70.2 to 60.1 and outrebounding them 37.1 to 34.8.
The Bulldogs of SWOSU are 4-7 this season after a 67-35 win over Rhema Bible College on Thursday in Weatherford, Okla.
Damian Henderson leads the team with 16.2 points per game while Chancellor Jones (13.8) and Charlest Flemming (10.4) are also averaging in double figures. Jones' 7.8 rebounds per contest leads the Bulldogs while Ty Pace is second with 5.0 boards per outing.
The Bulldogs are averaging .451 from the field, .272 from the arc and .614 from the line while opponents are shooting .459 from the floor, .359 from the arc and .712 from the stripe. SWOSU is being outscored 70.7 to 70.3 and are outrebounding opponents 35.4 to 35.2.
The Texans lead the all-time series, 11-4. Tarleton won last season's contest on Jan. 8 (62-59) in Weatherford, Okla. Under head coach Lonn Reisman, the Texans are 6-1 in Stephenville against the Bulldogs. The only win for SWOSU in Wisdom Gym came on its last visit on Dec. 1, 2008 (81-75).
Fans attending Saturday's game will have the chance to win cash prizes, and the In-Zone Cheer teams will perform at halftime of each game.
Cameron is 8-1 this season heading into the weekend as the Aggies will play at Midwestern State on Saturday before meeting the Texans on Monday. CU is coming off a 50-47 win over West Texas A&M in Lawton, Okla. on Monday.
Milton Garner is averaging 15.6 points per game to lead Cameron this season while Dernodo Eiland (13.3), Jacquez Williams (11.1) and Kallan Glasgow (10.3) are also averaging in double digits. Glasgow leads the squad with 8.8 rebounds per game while Garner is second with 5.8 boards per contest.
The Aggies are averaging .422 from the field, .387 from the arc and .676 from the line while foes are shooting .393 from the floor, .265 from the arc and .647 from the stripe. The Aggies are outscoring opponents 69.7 to 55.4 and outrebounding them 40.0 to 28.8.
Tarleton leads the all-time series 15-9, including a 58-49 win last season in Lawton on January 10. The Texans are 10-1 all-time against the Aggies in Stephenville, including claiming the last nine such meetings.
Fans at Monday's game will be treated to The Skyriders, a high-flying, entertaining trampoline act at both halftimes. Fans will also have the chance to win free tickets to the New Year's Eve concert with Stoney LaRue at City Limits in Stephenville.
