WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The TarletonTexAnn softball team dropped  two games Saturday in Weatherford, Okla. to Southwestern Oklahoma, 3-2 and 4-2.

Tarleton is now 9-8 overall as Victoria Kelly hit .833 in the doubleheader, going five-of-six.  Rebecca Wessels hit .400 on Saturday.

Julie Norris had a 1.29 earned run average in her seven game, extra inning loss in game one while striking out seven.

The TexAnns will return to action on Sunday, March 7 at Cameron. The doubleheader in Lawton, Okla. is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Southwestern Oklahoma 3, Tarleton 2

The Bulldogs struck first in game one, scoring one run on one hit in the bottom of the first to take the early lead.

The TexAnns struck back in the top of the fourth with Brittany Terry doubled.  A Norris sacrifice moved Terry to third and Elyse Tatum came in to pinch run for the TexAnn senior.  With two outs,  Kelly singled to score Tatum and tie the score at one run apiece.

In the top of the eighth, Megan Eldridge was placed at second due to the international tie-breaker rule.  A sacrifice bunt by Amy Gabbert moved the runner to third before a Wessels single scored Eldridge.  Wessels then stole second, but a ground out and a strike out ended the inning.

The Bulldogs trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, and they too got a runner placed on second due to the tie-breaker rule.  However, an error put runners on the corners to start the inning before a walk loaded the bases before an error tied the game and a single won the game for the home team, 3-2.

The extra inning was pitched by Norris with six hits and three runs, only one of which was earned.  She allowed one walk and struck out seven batters.  She fell to 5-5 on the season.

Southwestern Oklahoma 4, Tarleton 2

Tarleton jumped out early in game two with two runs.  Wessels walked to start the contest before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch.  Tami Sutton reached on an error and Wessels scored to give the TexAnns the lead.  With one out, Sutton stole second and advanced to third on an error by the shortstop.  Norris then grounded out to second to score Sutton.  Tarleton led 2-0.

The Bulldogs would score one run in the bottom of the frame on one hit and an error to cut the lead in half before scoring one run on two hits and an error in the bottom of the third.

SWOSU would add a run on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning before tallying a final run on two hits in the bottom of the fifth to take the 4-2 victory.

Katie Smith pitched all six innings for the TexAnns and had one walk and five strikeouts.  The TexAnns combined for four hits in game two.
