STEPHENVILLE – The No. 20-ranked Tarleton TexAnn tennis team dropped a Lone Star Conference match to Midwestern State, 5-3, on Wednesday at Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts in Stephenville.
The loss snaps a four-match winning streak for the TexAnns who fell to 12-6 and 4-2 in LSC play. MSU improved to 12-7 and 2-4 in the LSC following the win.
Tarleton opened the match winning two of three doubles flights with Jade Charlot and Evgeniya teaming up to win, as did Adrianna Jaskova and Carole Julen.
Mariana Freitas was the lone TexAnn to win in singles play, as she downed Kaja Banas (6-1, 7-5).
“We were able to win two of the three doubles matches and were exactly where we wanted to be,” Tarleton head tennis coach Lance Drake said. “Midwestern has had some tough losses this season, but came out in singles and got the best of us. They played a strong style in the wind and were able to turn the flow of the match. We did not do a good job of stringing together points today and way too many unforced errors.”
“However, we still had opportunities to get the victory. We didn't capitalize and it got away from us. Mariana Freitas has put together 2 good singles performances back to back and glad to see her game coming around. We have to put this tough loss behind us and get ready for another tough conference battle against Northeastern.”
Tarleton returns to action on Friday to play in its final LSC match of the season. The TexAnns will travel to Sherman to play Northeastern State.
