SHERMAN – The No. 20 Tarleton TexAnn tennis team dropped its second consecutive Lone Star Conference match, falling 5-4 to No. 16 Northeastern Oklahoma in Sherman on Friday.
“It was a tough match for us, but there was good tennis played the entire day,” Tarleton head tennis coach Lance Drake said. “Both teams played hard, with Northeastern coming out on top. I was proud of the way our players kept fighting. This was a close match and after coming off a disappointing loss to Cameron, we knew that NSU would come out much better prepared to play a solid match. That is just what they did today.”
The TexAnns fell behind 1-2 after doubles play with Jade Charlot and Evgeniva Prokofeva picking up Tarleton's only win – an 8-4 decision over Claire Chanay and Ivana Belejova.
Charlot (7-6, 6-7, 1-0 over Belejova), Carole Julen (6-1, 6-3 over Chanay) and Prokofeva (7-5, 6-1 over Karolina Cichon) each won their respective flights in singles action, but it wasn't enough as NSU picked up wins in the first three flights of singles to take the match.
The TexAnns fall to 12-7 overall and end the regular season 4-3 in the LSC.
Tarleton will take the week off to prepare for its final home match of the season, which will be played this next Saturday, April 17, at Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts.
The TexAnns will then head into the LSC Championships on April 23-24, in Edmond, Okla., likely as the No. 3 or No. 4 seed.
