- Justin Carrigan on why he chose Tarleton Football
STEPHENVILLE – After spending the last season at Texas-El Paso, Justin Carrigan has been named the quarterbacks coach and the passing game coordinator at Tarleton State University by first-year head coach Cary Fowler.
“He coaches offense with a defensive mentality, and I believe he is going to be a great addition to our staff,” Fowler said. “He is a man of character, and we are excited to have him on board. He coached back-to-back No. 1 offenses in the country at Midwestern State, and I think he is going to help bring our offense up even more, and that is what we are really excited about.”
Carrigan spent four years at Lone Star Conference South Division rival Midwestern State prior to his stint at UTEP. He was a graduate assistant at MSU in 2005 before being promoted to strength and conditioning/receivers coach. He also served as passing game coordinator for the Mustangs.
“I chose Tarleton State University for the winning tradition and its long-standing as a top-notch program in the LSC,” Carrigan said. “The second part of that is Coach Cary Fowler. The opportunity to come work with such a family-oriented guy means a lot to me and my wife. Winning championships here is going to be exciting.”
Carrigan played at Angelo State, where he was a two-time All-LSC safety. He received the school's Greg Stokes Award in 2000. He earned his degree in kinesiology in 2003 and is pursuing a master's degree in the same field.
The newest Texan coach married the former Heather West on June 14, 2008.
