COMMERCE – The Tarleton TexAnn volleyball team remained undefeated after sweeping two games on Saturday, defeating Arkansas-Monticello (3-1) and Panhandle State (3-0).
The TexAnns improved to 4-0 at the start of the young season to start the season with four victories for the first time since 1999 when Tarleton opened the year 6-0. This is just the third time in the program's history that the TexAnns have started 4-0. In 1986, Tarleton opened the season 5-0 for its second best start ever.
In the victory over UAM, Tarleton fell in the first game (25-22) before taking the final three games (25-20, 25-19, 25-22).
Tarleton hit just .136 in the match while recording 6.0 blocks.
Leading the way for the purple and white was Rachel Wolf with 12 kills and Flynn Harrell with 11. Jessie Hartman had 25 assists to lead the TexAnns as Danielle Barker had 20. Shea McBrearty had 15 digs to top the team while Harrell (13) and Paige Hamilton (12) each had double-digit digs.
UAM's Monica Miller had 15 kills to lead the opponent while Vikki Crisco had 35 assists. Four different Cotton Blossoms had double-digit digs, and the team totaled six blocks. The squad hit .081 in the match.
In Tarleton's second game of the day, Tarleton swept the match winning 25-9, 25-20 and 25-16.
Harrell tallied 11 kills and a .280 hitting percentage as the TexAnns hit .259 as a squad. In game one, the TexAnns hit .444.
Hartman (15) and Barker (11) led the team in assists while McBrearty's eight digs were tops on the team.
Tarleton had three total blocks on its way to the victory.
OPSU was led by Hillary Isleifson with nine kills and Jordan Swafford with 15 assists. Meghan Gwatney had 16 digs for the Lady Aggies.
The TexAnns will return to action with their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. Tarleton will host Southern Arkansas as the TexAnns look to tie the second-best start to a season in school history.
