STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton TexAnn volleyball team will open its home portion of the 2010 schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. against Southern Arkansas in Wisdom Gym South.
The TexAnns (4-0) are off one of the best starts in the program's history. After taking four matches at the Texas A&M-Commerce Invitational last weekend, the TexAnns' start is the third-best in school history. Tarleton started 6-0 in 1999 and 5-0 in 1986.
Tarleton defeated Southern Arkansas in the first match of the season at the tournament, 3-1. SAU is 3-1 after their four matches at the TAMUC event.
The TexAnns averaged a .214 hitting percentage and 13.1 kills per game. Tarleton had 1.7 aces per game, 14.1 digs per game and 1.1 blocks per game. The TexAnns also averaged 12.3 assists per game in the opening weekend.
Jessie Hartman had 91 assists in the first four matches of the year, averaging 6.07 per game. Danielle Barker had 57 assists (4.07) in the 6-2 rotation. Rachel wolf had 51 kills in the opening weekend with a .254 hitting percentage. She had 27 kills against Fort Hays State with a .426 hitting percentage. Flynn Harrell was second in kills with 45. She had a .291 hitting percentage.
Shea McBrearty led the team with nine aces and 41 digs while Harrell added 40 digs for second on the team. Catherine Cutbirth had 10 total blocks with one solo and nine assisted blocks in the four matches.
SAU is averaging .214 in hitting percentage this season and is led by Becca Pate with 41 kills and Jordan White with a .519 hitting percentage. Pate has a 2.93 kills per game average and White a 2.29 kills per game average.
Ashlie Arnold has 99 assists to lead the Muleriders while Kahli Remy has 44 digs to top the squad. Maggie Glover has tallied 13 blocks to lead the team as SAU averages 1.64 blocks per match.
Both teams defeated Fort Hays State and Panhandle State at the TAMUC Invitational.
