TexAnns improve to 5-0 with win over SAU

STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton TexAnn volleyball team tied the program's second-best beginning ever on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Southern Arkansas in the season opener. Tarleton is now 5-0 on the season.

The TexAnns took the match 25-18, 25-16 and 25-20. Tarleton trailed by a couple of points on three different occasions in the third game, but the TexAnns rallied to sweep the Muleriders (3-2).

Tarleton was led by Flynn Harrell with a .417 hitting percentage, and she shared the lead in kills with six. Also with six kills was Rachel Wolf. The TexAnns spread the scoring around with six different players with three or more assists.

Shea McBrearty led the team with 21 digs while Jessie Hartman (12) and Danielle Baker (11) had double-digit assists in the victory. Wolf had three service aces and five blocks, including one solo and four assisted blocks.

The TexAnns had nine total blocks in the game.

Southern Arkansas was led by Courtney Smith with eight kills and Rebecca Pate with seven. Ashlie Arnold had 23 assists while Pate had 11 digs.

The Muleriders hit .087 in the match and tallied four total blocks.

Tarleton will return to action this weekend at the Tarleton TexAnn Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10-11 at the Tarleton Rec Center in Stephenville.
