Texans look to remain perfect at home vs. Javelinas

BACK AT HOME
The Tarleton Texans will return home for the first time since last Wedneday to face Texas A&M-Kingsville at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29.

THIS MONTH
Tarleton is 6-2 in the month of January heading into tonight's game.  

THE DOWNLOW IN CANYON
Tarleton was held to its lowest output ever under head coach Lonn Reisman, scoring just 36 points.  The previous lowest was 40 points against WTAMU in a 67-40 loss on Feb. 18, 1995.

STRONG AT HOME
The Texans are strong at home this season, going 10-0 so far in Wisdom Gym.  Tarleton has won 20 of its last 21 games in Wisdom, dating back to last season.  The Texans are on a 12-game home winning streak, dating back to Feb. 13, 2010.

WINNING AT HOME
The Texans have been tough to beat at home during Lonn Reisman's tenure.  Tarleton is 150-16 (.904) in the last nine-plus seasons, dating back to the 2001-02 season.  In Reisman's 22-plus seasons, the Texans have a 306-59 record in Wisdom Gym (.838).
   
The home record in the last eight seasons leads not only the LSC teams, but all of the NCAA South Central Region members, too.

HOME STREAK
The Texans are in the midst of a 12-game home winning streak – the fourth best since the 2001-02 season.  Tarleton had a streak of 33 (2004-2007) and 25 (2001-03) for the top two streaks in Wisdom Gym during that span. The third best is just two wins away for Tarleton at 14 (2003-04).

DEFENSE, DEFENSE
The Tarleton defense is ranked No. 1 in the nation scoring defense, allowing opponents to score an average of 52.4 points per game heading into this week.  Tarleton is No. 3 in the nation in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 36.9 percent from the field.
   
Thanks to the defense, Tarleton has the No. 3 scoring margin in the country with a plus-24.3 margin.

FORCING TURNOVERS
Tarleton is forcing lots of turnovers this season, but giving away less.  The Texans are No. 3 in the nation in turnover margin with a 7.3 margin in favor of the purple and white.
   
Part of turnovers is taking the ball away, and the Texans are No. 28 in the country in doing so, averaging 9.5 steals per game.

REBOUND THAT BALL
Heading into this week, the Texans are No. 11 in the nation in rebound margin (8.1).  The Texans have outrebounded every foe this season except Cameron, Texas A&M-Commerce and Abilene Christian.
   
Tarleton is outrebounding opponents by an average of 37.1 to 30.2.

LEADING THE TEXANS

The Texans are led by Corin Henry with 13.4 points per game.  He is the only Texan in double figures in the balanced attack ad Devon Hills is second with 8.7 points followed by Carrington Tankson with 8.5 points per outing.  Wes Dipprey's 6.6 rebounds per game leads the team with Donta Smith second with 4.2 boards per outing.  Fabian Wilson leads the team with 11 blocks while Henry tops the squad with 33 steals and 65 assists.

SOUTH PLAY
The Texans are led by Corin Henry with 16.0 points per game during South Division play followed by Wes Dipprey with 10.4 points per game.  Dipprey leads the team with 7.6 boards per game during South Division play as Tarleton is outrebounding foes 33.0 to 30.8 and outscoring them 63.2 to 52.2.  Tarleton is averaging .425 from the floor, .386 from the arc and .708 from the charity stripe while holding opponents to .368, .321 and .660, respectively.

OUTSCORING FOES
The Texans are outscoring foes 74.4 to 51.9.  The Texans'  biggest win of the season came against Arlington Baptist – 108-30 (78 points).  The smallest margin of victory is four at home against Texas A&M-Commerce (70-66).

SHOOTING TEXANS

The Texans are averaging .451 from the floor, .378 from the arc and .686 from the charity stripe while opponents are shooting .321 from the field, .386 from the arc and .660 from the line. 

NOW ON SPECIAL
Tarleton is outscoring opponents in points off turnovers (22.9 to 9.9) and points in the paint (33.9 to 17.6). 

OFF THE BENCH
Tarleton is averaging 32.1 points per game off of the bench this season as the Texans are outscoring opponents from the bench by 17.4 points per game (14.4 for opponents).

SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS
Texas A&M-Kingsville is 6-11 overall and 1-4 in the LSC South Division after losing at home to Midwestern State on Wednesday, 72-57.
   
The Javelinas are led by Antwan Mullins with 10.8 points per game followed closely by Adam Morris with 10.0 points per outing.  Wayne Lovings leads the squadh with 6.5 rebounds per contest.
   
TAMUK is being outscored 63.7 to 59.2 and outrebounded 35.5 to 30.8.  The Javelinas are averaging .399 from the field, .278 from the arc and .631 from the line while opponents are shooting .444 from the floor, .301 from the arc and .698 from the stripe this season.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Tarleton leads the all-time series, which began in 1969, 26-21.  The Texans claimed a 78-59 victory in Stephenville last year (2/20/10), and Tarleton has won the last two meetings.   Tarleton is 21-10 against TAMUK under head coach Lonn Reisman, including a 14-3 mark inside Wisdom Gym.  Before losing two straight to the Javelinas in 2009, Tarleton had claimed 13 straight.  The Texans have won 15 of the last 17 meetings between the two teams, dating back to 2002.

UP NEXT
The Texans will play Midwestern State next week in what the LSC has deemed as “Rivalry Week.” 
   
Tarleton will play at MSU on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. before hosting the Mustangs at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5.
   
On that Saturday, Tarleton will celebrate Huckabay, Morgan Mill and Santo Nights with fans from those cities getting in free with proof of residence.    It is also Stephenville Elementary Night and SPARD Girls Night where kids will get in free with the tickets they receive at school (elementary) or by wearing their SPARD jerseys.
