Softball team spends offseason serving community

STEPHENVILLE - There's a lot more going on in the softball offseason than just training.

The TexAnn softball team has been working in the community by hosting a free softball clinic for kids, collecting Box Tops for Education and recycling used eyeglasses.

"These projects are important to our team," said Tarleton head softball coach Julie Mata. "Not just because we come together and work hard together, but because of the things we can accomplish for kids and people who need it.''

As a team, the TexAnns raised 688 Box Tops for Education for the Lingleville School District and over 50 pairs of eyeglasses to donate to the Stephenville Lions' Club Used Eyeglasses Bin.

Tarleton also hosted a free youth clinic for kids ages 7-12.

"We've still got a few fall community-building projects we plan to take on, including volunteer yard work for people who might need a hand with it," said Mata. "Plus, we're still going to do a Thanksgiving food drive."
