SAN ANTONIO – Tarleton State (19-13, 13-7) will enter the postseason on a five game winning streak after knocking off Incarnate Word in four sets Saturday.
The TexAnns finished the regular season in fourth place of the Lone Star Conference standings and will play the No. 5 seed Texas Woman's in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference tournament in Canyon Thursday at 5 p.m.
The teams opened the match with a see-saw battle that saw the teams stay within two points of each other until 18-18.
Then the Cardinals took advantage of four Tarleton errors and ended the set on a 7-1 run to win 25-19.
The TexAnns answered in the second set by jumping out to a 7-1 lead.
UIW clawed back to within four at 12-8, but kills by Flynn Harrell, Stacie Murrah and Breawn Waynes started a 6-1 TexAnn run to lead 17-9.
The teams split the next 14 points, which was enough to lift the TexAnns to a 25-17 win and even the match 1-1.
Tarleton's dominance continued into the third set by jumping out to a quick 10-5 lead.
After UIW got back to within one at 18-17, Ashley Rine landed a kill that started a 7-1 Tarleton run to end the set 25-18.
Again, TexAnns started strong with a 9-5 lead in the fourth set.
Tarleton maintained a slim lead, eventually giving up the lead when the Cardinals tied the game at 22-22.
Rine struck again, however with a kill to start a 3-1 run - capped by kills by Katie Covell and Jessie Hartman - to end the match and the regular season.
Covell and Murrah led the TexAnns with 12 kills each, while Harrell added 11. Nikki McNorton had nine kills, ending her run of eight straight matches with double figure kills.
Hartman (27) and Danielle Barker (24) led the team in assists, while Emily Klein recorded a team high 23 digs.
