Tarleton 8, St. Mary's 0 (six innings)
SAN ANTONIO – The Tarleton TexAnn softball team split two games Saturday at the St. Mary's Round Robin, losing to No. 25 Emporia State and defeating St. Mary's.
The TexAnns dropped the first game on Saturday (6-0) to the Lady Hornets. Tarleton rebounded with an 8-0 win against the Lady Rattlers in six innings.
The TexAnns went 3-1 on the weekend, better than the other two teams in the Round Robin as ESU was 2-2 and SMU was 1-3.
"Becca, Abby, Kelsey and Marcie really played great in the St. Mary's game," said Tarleton head coach Julie Mata. "It was great to bounce back after not playing well defensively against ESU."
Tarleton will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at home when it hosts Cameron for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. in Stephenville.

Victoria Kelly got the first TexAnn hit in the bottom of the third inning with a double with two outs, but a strikeout ended the inning.
Tarleton got back on the bases in the fifth with a walk (Kelsey Latta) and a double in the seventh by Latta as well, but Tarleton couldn't get around the bases.
Randi Fentress started the game for the TexAnns, and the freshman threw 4.2 innings and gave up four earned runs on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Katie Smith came in as relief and threw 2.1 innings and gave up two unearned runs on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Abigail Tammen got the second game going with one out in the top of the first with a home run before the TexAnns added to the score in the top of the second. Katie Welborn walked to open the frame before Eryn Freitas came in to pinch run for the first baseman. With two outs, Marcie Rodriguez walked before Rebecca Wessels singled to score Freitas. Tammen reached on an error by the shortstop to score both Wessels and Rodriguez. Tammen went to third and then scored on a Samantha Swanda single. Tarleton led 5-0.
Rodriguez singled to open the top of the fourth before Wessels walked. Tammen grounded out to second to advance the runners who then advanced on a wild pitch as Rodriguez scored and made it 6-0.
In the top of the sixth, Wessels got a leadoff single and then stole second. Tammen grounded out to second as Wessels went to third. Latta singled to score Wessels before Arianna Rodriguez doubled to score Latta and give Tarleton an 8-0 lead.
Swanda pitched all six innings for the TexAnns and allowed just four hits in the shutout. She got four strikeouts in the win.
