STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton softball team is set to host its last home series of the season when No. 23 West Texas A&M will play a three-game Lone Star Conference South Division series in Stephenville this weekend.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday, April 22 at 1 p.m. before a single game is set for Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m.
On Saturday, the TexAnns will honor the 2011 seniors and the whole team will sign autographs for fans. Also on Saturday, kids 13 and under will receive an Easter surprise.
Tarleton (20-21-1, 8-7) swept a three-game Lone Star Conference South Division series from Eastern New Mexico last weekend. The TexAnns are one game out of fourth position in the South.
Tarleton had two grand slams in last Saturday's win over the Zias.
Samantha Swanda hit the first in the top of the fifth while
Katie Welborn hit the second in the top of the sixth to lift Tarleton to a 10-6 lead at the time.
Arianna Rodriguez led the team with a .526 batting average last week with nine runs scored, 10 hits, two doubles, two home runs and five runs batted in. She had a .947 slugging percentage.
Rebecca Wessels hit .429 with seven runs scored, a triple, six hits and she was four-of-four on stolen bases.
Amy Gabbert (.417), Welborn (.400) and
Brittany Dumas (.400) all hit at or above .400 last week. Swanda hit .313.

Randi Fentress was 2-0 with a 3.00 earned run average to lead Tarleton. She had three appearances and one start, pitching 16.1 innings and allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 13 hits with nine walks and 18 strikeouts.
Katie Smith (4.38) was 0-1 and Swanda (4.85) was 1-1.
Wessels leads the team with a .367 batting average, 47 hits, 36 runs scored, three triples and is 24-of-29 in stolen bases.
Victoria Kelly (.306) and Rodriguez (.301) are also hitting above the .300- mark. Rodriguez is second in hits (41) and leads the team in doubles (11). Swanda (.289) tops the squad with 11 home runs and 35 RBI with a .593 slugging percentage. She is second in runs scored (27). Tarleton is hitting .280 as a team while opponents have a combined ERA of 3.16.
In the circle, Swanda leads the team with a 10-11 record and a 2.64 ERA. She has pitched in 135.0 innings and walked 54 while striking out 138. Fentress (4-4) has a 2.69 ERA in 67.2 innings of action with 30 walks and 55 strikeouts.
Katie Smith (6-6) has a 2.73 ERA in 82.0 innings with 19 walks and 42 strikeouts. The team has a 2.68 ERA while opponents are hitting .252.
The Lady Buffaloes are 34-12 overall and 9-6 in the South Division. They are tied for third place in the South with Abilene Christian.
WTAMU is led by Kim LeComte with a .421 batting average, 61 hits, 12 home runs and 52 RBI. Kasey Hendreson (.390) is tops the squad with 51 runs. The team is hitting .319 while opponents have a combined ERA of 6.47.
In the circle, Shlebey Cockrell has a 2.09 ERA to lead the team. She has pitched in 144.0 innings and has allowed 65 walks and struck out 186 batters.
