GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The No. 3 Tarleton TexAnn golf team finished third at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz. at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
Tarleton was in fifth after the first day of competition, and the TexAnns pulled within four strokes of winner Cal State-Monterey Bay. Tarleton shot a 309 on Monday and bettered its total by 10 strokes with a 299 on Tuesday for a 608, but it wasn't enough to overcome CSU-MB's 604 (302-302).
Sharon Lau tied for seventh with a 150 (77-73) to lead Tarleton while Katy Ward (74-77) and Jacqueline Lau (79-72) tied for 11th with a 151 each. Carla Cooper tied for No. 24 with a 156 (79-77) and Melanie Tham tied for No. 38 with a 158 (80-78).
Grand Canyon finished three strokes better than the TexAnns at 605 while St. Edward's (615), Western Washington (617), Northeastern State (617), Sonoma State (620), Western New Mexico (626), West Texas A&M (627) and Academy of Art (633) round out the Top 10. Chico State (640), Dallas Baptist (642), St. Martin's (644), Mesa State (646), Hawaii-Hilo (647), Texas A&M-Commerce (665), St. Mary's (693) and Montana State-Billings (698) completed the field.
Tarleton will return to action when it hosts the Doc Housewright Tarleton Invitational next week on April 11-12 at Harbor Lakes Golf Club in Granbury.
