STEPHENVILLE - It seems like, lately, every TexAnn win against West Texas A&M means a new milestone.
While it won't be easy to come by when the Lady Buffs roll into Stephenville Saturday night, the TexAnns aren't shying away from trying to become the first Tarleton team in school history to record three straight wins against WT.
Tarleton swept the season series last year for the first time in school history, including a double-overtime thriller in Stephenville.
Much like Tarleton (8-5, 5-0), West Texas A&M (8-4, 6-0) started the season below .500 but have gotten off to a perfect start in Lone Star Conference play - setting up this weekends' battle for first place in the LSC.
Tarleton is coming off a trip to Portales, N.M. where the TexAnns earned head coach Ronnie Hearne his 1000th career victory with a 78-70 win over Eastern New Mexico.
Seniors Shelby Adamson and Morgan Stehling led the TexAnns in scoring with 22 and 18 points, respectively.
This marks the fourth time this season Adamson and Stehling finished 1-2 on the team in scoring and the 17th time in their careers to be the top two scorers in a game. The TexAnns are 11-6 all-time when this tandem finishes as the top scorers.
On the defensive side, however, the TexAnns were snakebitten by an unlikely star.
Precious Herrin entered Wednesday's game as the conference's leading scorer at 19.7 points per game, but the TexAnns held her to just 10 - six on free throws.
Kiara Tate entered Wednesday's game averaging just over eight points per contest, but scored a career-high 40 points.
Meanwhile across the state line, West Texas was hosting A&M-Commerce and not having any trouble at all as the Lady Buffs cruised to a 110-37 victory.
WT had four players score over 20 and the team connected on over 60-percent of their shots from the floor.
Devin Griffin, a sophomore transfer from North Carolina State, is leading the Lady Buffs in scoring at 16.1 points per game while Kenisha Harris (11.4) and Joni Unruh (10.4) are also averaging double figures.
Unruh, the 2009 LSC South Division Player of the Year, is in her fifth year of eligibility after receiving a medical redshirt from a season-ending knee injury at the start of last season.
The TexAnns will counter with their double-figure trio: Kiara Wright (16.7 ppg) and the Adamson sisters, Shelby (15.5) and Peyton (11.1).
Tarleton puts its six-game season win streak and two-game streak against WT on the line against the Lady Buffs in a battle for LSC supremacy at 5 p.m. in Stephenville.
Stephenville and Santo residents get in free with proof of residency and the Stephenville High School Stings and Band will be on hand for entertainment.
